30-minutes of pure strength training for arms and legs. Tone and define while you help to prevent osteoporosis by making your bones and muscles stronger! Requires just a set of 3 or 5-pound dumbbells and a stretch band. No aerobics, dancing or choreography to learn. Classes are taught by a certified instructor. Eight, 30-minute classes in each term.

Geri-Fit® Strength Training for Seniors  
An 8-hour clinic for instructors who want to expand their knowledge of strength training for seniors – especially clients age 75 and above. While designed for instructors who will be teaching the evidence-based Geri-Fit® exercise program at licensed facilities such as senior centers, gyms, retirement communities, and yoga studios, it also provides a new skill set that instructors can use in their existing senior exercise programs.

Credits: Strength Training for Seniors course is approved by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) for .8 CECs.

Who Should Enroll: While open to the public, the course is most suited to those who have completed the following training through nationally recognized certifying organizations:

  • Group fitness instructor certification (Group X)
  • Personal fitness trainer certification (CPT)
  • Activity Providers (AP)
  • We also accept candidates with degrees in:

    NEW! Advanced Strength Training Techniques  
    Whether you are a brand new instructor or have been teaching older adult fitness classes for years, this course will provide you with advanced training skills that you can apply to your strength and balance classes or one-on-one training. This live, Geri-Fit Master Trainer-led workshop will provide training for 50 different strength training exercises and 20 stretches applicable to the older adult population. Balance and gait exercises are included for advanced fall prevention training.

    Upon completion of the course, attendees will be able to:

    • Understand the application of various types of advanced strength training techniques.
    • Recognize how to implement modifications for joint replacement and handicap situations.
    • Acquire skills in proprioception and reflex training.
    • Learn optional floorwork exercises for advanced Geri-Fit students.
    • Learn how to effectively lead a Geri-Fit class for older adults.

    CDC - Diabetes Management Class  
    Learn how to manage, treat, prevent, halt and reverse type 2 diabetes and prediabetes in this 22 week health education course. Class will meet for two hours once-a-week at specified locations to be announced in July 2018. Participants should desire to change their current lifestyle and accept and undergo dietary changes in order for the program to be effective. A weekly weigh-in will be required at each class. Informative handouts will be given out and class notes are encouraged. Participants must be willing to attend each weekly two hour class and participate in 150 minutes of physical activity each week (like the Geri-Fit program). There is NO COST to participate for those that are over the age of 65. Classes will be led by a certified Diabetes Prevention Program Leader. Weekly participation is required, so please set aside the time needed in order to make positive changes in your life so that you can live longer and without the threat of diabetes.

    Geri-Fit License  
    The Instructor License is valid for one year from the date of purchase and can be renewed for each additional year for $150. The Instructor License INCLUDES your training and certification in the Geri-Fit program. There are no refunds once the license has been purchased. Please see the Instructor License Agreement for full details. Both parties must sign the License Agreement (you and the Geri-Fit Company) before your license kit can be sent.

    Yoga for Older Adults by Geri-Fit  
    Yoga for Older Adults by Geri-Fit® This class is designed to help students gradually build strength, flexibility, focus and balance by combining breathing techniques, basic yoga postures and deep stretches. Postures and stretches will primarily be performed in a standing and seated position (optional floorwork). Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat, block, strap and water to drink.     Geri-Flex® Stretch Class  
    This 30-minute exercise class incorporates stretches used in ballet, tai chi, yoga, pilates and physical therapy. It helps ease arthritic conditions and bursitis in the hips which will help you to get around easier. We'll stretch the entire body especially the hips and lower back. You will need to get on the floor, so please bring an exercise mat and a stretch band. Some stretches may be done in a chair, if needed. This is a wonderful exercise program for seniors and golfers, but all ages and fitness levels can attend. Just stretch at your own pace. Enrollment is open to men and women.     Geri-Fit® in Laguna Niguel  
    Help prevent falls, improve strength, stamina, balance and arthritic conditions in this 45-minute evidence-based strength training exercise class for adults 60 and over. No aerobics and no floor work! Exercises may be done seated in a chair, if needed. Bring a set of 2 or 3-pound dumbbells (each), a stretch band and water to drink during the workout.

    Geri-Fit® Private Lessons at Sea Country  
    Did you know that you lose one pound of muscle each year past the age of 50? If you're not lifting weights, you need to start now! Learn strength training exercises and techniques from a Certified Senior Strength Training Specialist to help with gait, balance, strength, stamina and flexibility. These private lessons will teach you strength training exercises that are designed to build back strength that has been lost through the aging process. Bring a bath towel and water to drink during the workout. All equipment is provided or you can bring your own dumbbells. Each session is 30 minutes long by appointment only and payable in advance.     Body Sculpting™  
    A one-hour cardiovascular strength training exercise class that shapes and tones the entire body and helps prevent osteoporosis. No dancing, jumping or jazzing… just results! Depending on your age and fitness level, bring a set of 3 to 5-pound dumbbells (each), a stretch band, a water bottle and an exercise mat. Accommodates beginner to advanced fitness levels ages 55 and under... work out at your own pace! Eight, one-hour classes in each term.

    Geri-Fit® Private Lessons - 30 minutes (in-home)  
    Personal fitness training at your home, retirement community or gym. Each class is 30-minutes long. Classes taught by a Certified Geri-Fit instructor.

    Geri-Flex Advanced Stretch  
    This 30-minute advanced stretching class requires an exercise mat, stretch band, and water to drink. Most of the stretches will be done on the floor, however, modifications can be made for those that have difficulty getting up and down.

    Geri-Fit National Certification -- Phoenix, AZ  
    An 8-hour clinic for instructors who want to expand their knowledge of strength training for seniors – especially for older adults ages 75+. While designed for instructors who will be teaching the evidence-based Geri-Fit® exercise program at licensed facilities, it also provides a new skill set that instructors can use in their existing senior exercise programs or in-home caregiving services.

    Credits: Strength Training for Seniors course is approved by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) for .8 CECs, and the California Department of Social Services for 8 contact hours.

    Who Should Enroll: While open to the public, the course is most suited to pre-certified instructors who have received their primary certification in either:

  • Group fitness instructor (Group X)
  • Personal fitness trainer (CPT)
  • We also accept candidates with degrees in:

  • Exercise physiology
  • Kinesiology and gerokinesiology
  • Physical therapy and occupational therapy
  • RCFE directors or staff
  • Nursing and other healthcare professions
  • Content: More than 50 different strength training exercises and stretches will be demonstrated to meet the needs of older adults who have lost strength and functional capacity due to aging. You will learn how to effectively teach:

  • Balance and gait exercises
  • Fall prevention techniques
  • One-on-one exercise correction
  • Personal training techniques
  • Certifying Instructor: Geri-Fit Staff

    Tuition: $315 per person

    Included Materials: Geri-Fit® Exercise Program Training Manual and two training DVDs. Prior manual and DVD review are required before attending this training workshop. Attendees must pass a practical and written examination in order to receive their Certificate of Completion.

    Free Balance Test  
    Join us on Tuesday, January 31 at 2:00 pm at the Kay Ceniceros Senior Center for an informative 45 minute discussion on ways to make your home more fall-proof. We’ll also demonstrate some simple strength training exercises that you can do at home that will increase strength, balance and help keep you more flexible.

    Free balance screenings will be provided by Balance Tracking Systems. This simple, three minute test will measures your postural sway and tell you if you are at risk for a fall. A test result over 40 suggests you may be at a higher risk for falls. What’s your score??
