Are there any rules or instructions that class participants must follow?

CLASS RULES In order to provide a safe and effective environment for everyone, we ask that the following rules be followed: In order to reduce the possibility of a strain or injury, you must arrive to class on time. The stretching portion is part of the preparatory process for the Geri-Fit® workout. If you are more than 5 minutes late, please do not take class that day. Because the instructor will be walking around the room and providing one-on-one instruction and correction, she may require you to reposition your hands, elbows, knees, hips or wrists. These corrections are needed in order for you to work the right muscle group and to minimize your risk of strain or injury. Please do not feel as though we are singling you out. Our workout provides one-on-one instruction at all times… for everyone! If you are opposed to being touched, please mention it to your instructor. If you are asked to slow down, it means that you are lifting the weights too fast. It’s better to lift in a moderate tempo. Avoid choppy or quick half reps. If you are able to lift the weight(s) too easily, it is an indication that you are getting stronger and you should try using a heavier weight of at least 10% more than the weight you are currently using. If you are instructed to do a different exercise than the rest of the group, only do that exercise. There might be people doing four different exercises at one time. Focus on the exercise that was selected for you and only do that exercise. If your doctor has prescribed certain exercises he wants you to do in the Geri-Fit® class, you should do those exercises instead. If we ask that you not stand up from a seated position, please do not attempt it, even if you know you can do it. You may become dizzy or unstable and you could possibly fall. Please follow our instructions at all times. Bring your own weights. You should also bring your own stretch band and water to drink during the workout. Please place your weights under your chair when they’re not in use and keep your chair area clear. Geri-Fit® is to be taken seriously. There is to be no showing off or clowning around! If we feel you are endangering others, you may be asked to leave. As always, we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. Please be mindful of class etiquette: there is to be no intentional grunting or release of gas when taking Geri-Fit exercise classes. Do not take pain medication before coming to class or right before class. You need to be focused, alert and attentive at all times. Lastly, please refrain from using perfume or cologne. Exercising heats up the body and produces more fragrance which some people cannot tolerate. Please be “scentsitive” to your class mates!
