What is Geri-Fit®?
Geri-Fit® is a 45-minute, medically-approved strength
training exercise program for older adults. The exercises may be performed in a chair, if
needed. The program is completely portable and requires no equipment other than a set of
2-pound (each) dumbbells, a towel or an exercise mat and a chair. A room large enough to
hold 15-20 people is also needed.
Who uses Geri-Fit®? Geri-Fit®,
Ltd. provides a licensed exercise program to senior centers, retirement community centers,
recreation facilities, physical therapy centers, health clubs, dance studios, universities
and hospitals. The program license is Geri-Fit® - the first
workout with weights for older adults.
Is any special equipment needed? Each participant brings their own set of
2-pound dumbbells to class, or the Center can purchase the dumbbells and store them for
students use. The facility may charge a fee to class participants or offer it free to the
public.
What is the goal of Geri-Fit®?
The goal of the Geri-Fit® Program is to provide better
health while building strength so that an independent lifestyle can be maintained. An
improvement in strength, flexibility and diminished arthritic conditions, as well as
better balance and coordination, can be seen in as little as two weeks.
What kind of training & support is provided?
The Geri-Fit® License includes a Training and Program
Manual, and a Training Video. All reference letters and publicity articles are included in
materials Licensee can use to advertise the program.
The Training Materials provide explicit instructions for training instructors or staff
to teach the Geri-Fit® exercise program. Certification is held at various locations across the United States throughout the year. For a list of cities and dates, call 1-888-GERIFIT
What credentials does Geri-Fit® have?
Geri-Fit®, Ltd. is a subsidiary corporation formed by Body
Sculpting by Exterior Designs, Inc. of Hudson, Ohio. Body Sculpting, Inc. has provided its
weight training exercise programs in Ohio since 1984. The company is listed with Dunn and
Bradstreet #623797578. References include Eaton Corporation, American Greetings, Akron
General Medical Center and Kent State University. The training provided to become a
Certified Instructor has been approved by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), and has
been awarded 12 CEU's by the American Physical Therapy Association (Ohio Chapter).
What are the costs involved?
PER LOCATION: A one-time $750 fee is required at the signing of the Agreement along
with a Certificate of Insurance for $1M naming Geri-Fit®,
Ltd. as an additional insured. This License permits the facility to utilize the
federally-registered trademark, Geri-Fit®, and to conduct the
medically-approved, copyrighted program. There is a $150 annual renewal fee required. |
